The Body and Identity (EASM154)

This module traces the cultural and literary history of the body, from the age of Enlightenment through the Victorian period and the twentieth century to the present day.. Taking a medical humanities approach, we will address such issues as bodily ‘monstrosity’, confession, sexuality, discipline, psychological disorders, criminality and race. In this module, we will enhance our primary reading with critical and theoretical work and with visual material.
